Editorial Guidelines

An editorial should:

  • Provide insight or perspective on a topic
  • Highlight emerging issues, gaps, or controversies
  • Stimulate discussion in the field

Typical Structure

  • Please provide a title which is concise, impactful and forward looking.
  • Core text
  • Conclusion

Length & References

  • No abstract required (in most cases)
  • Typically, 1200–1500 words
  • References limited (10–20 key citations; standard formatting as Vancouver style Example: Smith J, Lee K. Advances in dental adhesives. J Dent Res. 2024; 103:123–130)

General Formatting

  • Font: Times New Roman or Arial
  • Font size: 12 pt
  • Line spacing: 1.5-spaced
  • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
  • Alignment: Justified
  • Page numbers: Bottom right
  • No extra space between paragraphs
  • Use indent (0.5 inch) OR block paragraphs (journal dependent)

Figures/Tables

  • Not a journal requirement
  • If included:
    1. Max 1 figure
    2. Clear legend
    3. High resolution (300 dpi)
